Vacancy: intern at the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (higher professional education/university level)

The Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Martial Arts Authority) is looking for an enthusiastic intern to set up and carry out research into the number and range of kickboxing, Thai boxing and MMA gyms in the Netherlands. This research is to result in a map of the Netherlands covering the full contact martial arts. For the Vechtsportautoriteit this will form an important database. The research is therefore strongly practice-oriented.

What do we offer?

We are a compact, young organisation with a pioneering role in regulating the full contact martial arts kickboxing, Thai boxing and MMA in the Netherlands. Our place of work is hosted by the municipality of Amsterdam. We also work together with policy research agency DSP. You will have the opportunity to really familiarise yourself with the martial arts organisations in the Netherlands, from small gyms to large top-level gyms. We can introduce you to them and guide you. We will discuss together the exact scope and depth of the research. Through us you will not only get to know the martial arts organisations, but also municipal government and a policy research agency.

What do we ask of you?

Commitment, effort, interest and above all enjoyment. In the end, that also determines the quality of your work. We offer an internship for the period September 2018 to January 2019, on average about three to four days a week. You are flexible and do not mind occasionally working in the evening or at the weekend. The exact duration and scope can be agreed in consultation.

What do we think you should have and be able to do?

Above all, you should want to learn a lot. We expect a curious, open attitude from you as an intern. An affinity with (martial) sport is a major advantage. You should also enjoy doing research, it helps if you write fluently and well, and you should be willing to help us with all kinds of tasks that come our way and yours during your internship, such as attending and scheduling meetings, helping with news items or writing reports.

The required level is at least the final phase of higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO), in relevant fields such as Sport, Management & Entrepreneurship, Sports Marketing, Human Movement Sciences, Social Sciences, Marketing and Communication.

The Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit was established in 2017 to improve the regulation of kickboxing, Thai boxing and MMA in the Netherlands. Safety, health, quality and a positive sporting climate are central to this. We work together with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (ministerie van VWS), Dutch municipalities, NOCNSF and of course the full contact martial arts organisations.
