VA introduces Toolbox for ringside physicians

The Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (the Dutch combat sports regulator) has presented the Toolbox for ringside physicians. Various medical specialists from the VA Medical and Health Committee have examined the medical aspects of kickboxing, Thai boxing and MMA.
The toolbox serves to work jointly, in a uniform manner, towards a safe, healthy and well-regulated combat sports sector. The guidelines in the toolbox have been drawn up in the interest of the health of the athletes. The toolbox has been distributed to the active ringside physicians, combat sports federations and other stakeholders in the combat sports sector in the Netherlands. They will apply it in practice. The VA will supervise whether this actually happens.
In the period ahead, the Medical and Health Committee of the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit will focus on annual refresher training for ringside physicians, the introduction of the annual medical examination for fighters, advice on countering weight cutting, and other medical matters. The aim throughout is to make and keep our sport safer and healthier.
