Is your quality mark about to expire? Do not wait too long to renew it!

Update: In 2025, the Dutch Martial Arts Federation (Nederlandse Vechtsportbond, NVB) took over the issuing and renewal of the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (quality mark of the Dutch Martial Arts Authority) from the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit. More than two years after the introduction of the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit, many martial arts gyms are due for renewal. Does that include your gym? Do not wait too long and arrange it soon!

In two years, the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit has become a household name in the martial arts world. Without it, you can no longer take part in competitions in kickboxing, muaythai and mixed martial arts. Not only in the Netherlands: in Belgium too, the VA quality mark has become a requirement.

But it is not only gyms that take part in competitions that want the quality mark. Gyms that only offer training for recreational participants are applying for it more and more often as well. They also want to show that they meet the standards.

This is partly because a growing number of municipalities consider the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit important and include it in their local policy. They only do business with gyms that hold the quality mark. But gyms also see that it gives them an advantage in the competition between gyms. Parents who enrol their children in a sport like to have confirmation that this takes place in a safe environment.

Renew in good time!
More than two years after its introduction, the quality mark is expiring for many gyms. In order to keep taking part in competitions, but also to be recognised as an accredited gym, it is important to renew the quality mark in good time. This application takes less effort and time than the first application, because details that have remained the same do not have to be submitted again. Only changed circumstances and time-sensitive documents, such as the first aid certificate and the certificate of good conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG), need to be provided.

As a gym, however, do not wait until the last moment, because the VA needs some time to process all the reassessments.
