Meet… Raimond Honig

2 min read

The Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Combat Sports Authority) consists of a board, a supervisory board and an office. They are supplied with expertise by a large number of advisers who sit on five committees. But who are the people on those committees?

Each of the VA committees focuses on a specific theme:

– Events and galas
– Medical and health
– Quality and licences
– Technical matters
– Communications

Over the coming period we will introduce you to a number of their members, to give you a better idea of who is actually involved in the substantive work of the VA.

The committee member we present here is Raimond Honig.

Raimond Honig with one of his heroes: kickboxing legend Rob Kaman

“Professionally, I am Operations Director at Masters in Finance. Through my role as guest lecturer and examiner at the SKMO I was made aware of the various committees within the VA. I am glad to contribute to shaping our fine sport in the right way. That is why I am happy to work on the further professionalisation of kickboxing in the Netherlands, including in the VA’s Communications Committee.”

“I am particularly interested in the image of our sport among the general public, and in the way we can all bring about change in that respect. Which means do you deploy to ensure that our sport becomes ‘mainstream’? What can we do to ensure that the wider public is also able and willing to embrace this sport? The VA does everything it can to banish disorder from our sport, and I would like to contribute to that.”

“Combat sports in general and kickboxing in particular have been a constant thread throughout my life for the past 38 years. I started as a practitioner, continued as a competitive fighter, was a ring announcer for 25 years, and now I still work at my own gym, Sakura in Zoetermeer, as a trainer, coach and instructor. Every phase of my involvement in the sport has its charm and its special aspects. Combat sports have given me structure, self-confidence, personal leadership and friendships. I can genuinely recommend it to anyone.”
