Board members wanted for the Nederlandse Vechtsportbond (Dutch Martial Arts Federation) in formation

Work is under way to form a single federation for the martial arts of kickboxing, Thai boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). Preparations for establishing the federation are now well advanced. The aim is to be operational in 2024 and to join NOC*NSF (the Dutch Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation). During 2023 the process is being guided by a project leader (kwartiermaker) working on behalf of NOC*NSF.

A single federation makes it possible to develop these martial arts further and to make even better use of their social value.

The chosen structure consists of a federation office, two governing divisions (Pro and Amateur) and a federation board. The chair of the Pro division, which focuses mainly on events, also has a seat on the federation board. Within the Amateur division, each of the three disciplines has its own chair. One of these chairs will sit on the federation board on a rotating basis.

In total, the federation board consists of five people: the three general board members, plus the chair of the Pro division and the rotating chair of the Amateur division. The three general board members are a chair, a treasurer and a general member.

Preparations are in full swing. Would you like to help build a new martial arts federation as a board member?

An appointments committee will appoint the first group of board members. Until this is confirmed in the articles of association or arranged otherwise, the appointments committee will consist of the following people:

• Carlijn Mol, strategic adviser to the general director of NOC*NSF
• Farid Gamei, former A-class fighter and director of the Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Martial Arts Authority)
• Rion Rijker, former A-class fighter, lawyer and owner of a consultancy firm
• Hendrik Koppe, board member of Topsport Judobond (elite sport division of the Dutch Judo Federation) and financial manager.

In 2023 the committee will be supported by the project leader.
