First Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit certifications renewed

In the spring of 2021, the Keurmerk Sportautoriteit was awarded for the first time. The quality mark is valid for two years, so the first group of martial arts gyms is due for renewal.

Two years after its introduction, the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (quality mark of the Dutch Martial Arts Authority) is well established. More than 400 martial arts gyms that regularly take part in competitions in the Netherlands hold the certificate. Without the quality mark, taking part in competitions is no longer an option.

With the quality mark, martial arts gyms show that they meet the requirements set for their premises and for the equipment they use. They can demonstrate knowledge of the techniques of their sport: at least one qualified trainer is present. They also have their first aid provisions in order and have informed themselves about tackling doping use. There are clear house rules and standards of conduct, and if transgressive behaviour is observed, it is addressed.

The quality mark builds confidence with the municipality, which makes it easier to cooperate or to obtain additional permits, for example when events are organised. It also builds the confidence of athletes and of the parents of young athletes. Over the past two years, dozens of martial arts gyms received positive attention in local and regional media because they were awarded the quality mark.

Martial arts gyms that wish to extend the validity of their quality mark must apply for reassessment in good time so that they can continue to take part in competitions. A number of new topics have been added for renewal: weight cutting and illegal fights.
