1 min read

On the nomination of Minister van Ark (Health, Welfare and Sport, Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport) and by Royal Decree (Koninklijk Besluit), VA director Farid Gamei has been appointed a member of the Netherlands Sports Council (Nederlandse Sportraad).

The Netherlands Sports Council advises the government on sport and physical activity and on related themes. This means that someone with a combat sports background now also has a voice in the government's highest advisory body in the field of sport.

Chairman Michael van Praag welcomes the arrival of Farid Gamei: "With his knowledge, experience and background as a former elite athlete, Farid Gamei is a very valuable addition to the Netherlands Sports Council. The knowledge and practical experience that Farid brings with him will be of good use in our new work programme 'Sport in the system'. I very much look forward to working with him."

The members of the Netherlands Sports Council have knowledge of and experience with elite sport, grassroots sport, physical activity, disability sport and events, as well as expertise in governance, entrepreneurship, science and health. The membership is an honorary position that Gamei will carry out alongside his work for the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Combat Sports Authority).
