Vacancy: intern (f/m) in Safety Studies (HBO Veiligheidskunde)

The Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Combat Sports Authority) is looking for an enthusiastic intern (f/m) in the third or fourth year of a higher professional education programme in Safety Studies (HBO Veiligheidskunde). The position combines practical work with a research project between January 2023 and July 2023. The focus is on safety at and around combat sports events.
What do we offer?
We are the regulator for kickboxing, Thai boxing and MMA in the Netherlands. Our office is hosted by the City of Amsterdam (gemeente Amsterdam). You will have the opportunity to gain real insight into combat sports organisations in the Netherlands, from the local gym to the largest international promotions such as Glory and UFC. You will also come into contact with various government bodies and specialised police services. We can introduce you and provide guidance. We would like to have research carried out in order to improve safety at combat sports events. We will determine the precise content and scope of the research together. We offer a placement for the period January 2023 to July 2023, on average around three to four days per week. The exact duration and scope can be agreed in consultation. We offer a modest internship allowance.
What do we ask of you?
An interest in combat sports, a willingness to learn, an open attitude and above all the drive to get to work, because in the end enjoying your work also determines its quality. You should also be prepared to help us with all kinds of tasks that come our way during your placement, such as organising meetings and writing minutes of interviews and discussions. You are flexible and do not mind being deployed in the evening or at the weekend from time to time, since that is when most combat sports events take place. In addition, you are able to work well independently.
