National Sports Week, also for martial arts

1 min read

During the NOC*NSF National Sports Week (Nationale Sportweek) from 16 to 25 September, attention is given to sport and exercise throughout the Netherlands. The theme of the National Sports Week is therefore: 'Sport doet iets met je' ('Sport does something to you'). People are invited to become active, for example by taking up a martial art.

The Sportwijzer (sports guide) helps people find a sport that suits them. This may well lead them to the wide range of martial arts available in our country.

The National Sports Week starts on 16 September 2022. This year, four cities act as host municipalities: Alphen aan den Rijn, Amstelveen, Lelystad and Dordrecht. The aim is to get everyone involved in sport and exercise, each in their own way.

Ambassador and kickboxing icon Rico Verhoeven is promoting the 10 @ 10 Challenge. At school, children get to know 10 different sports in 10 minutes. Because doing sport together is fun!

This is especially important now. As a result of the coronavirus crisis, people took part in sport less often. Participation is still far from back at its former level. Among young people, the decline is relatively the largest. This is bad for the individual, for the sports sector and for public health. The VA (Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit, the Dutch Martial Arts Authority) therefore welcomes the fact that the National Sports Week contributes to getting young and old moving again.
