VA contributes to local sports agreements

1 min read

Local sports agreements are now being developed to realise the ambitions of the National Sports Agreement (Nationale Sportakkoord) concluded last year. The municipality of Amsterdam invited the VA (Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit, the Dutch combat sports regulator) to contribute.

Last week, Farid Gamei and Julian Huijsse took part in a meeting with almost the entire sports sector of the capital at Sporthallen Zuid. The core of their message: “Municipalities can do a great deal to safeguard the quality of facilities and events. That benefits the sport and the athletes.”

Representatives from the sports sector, municipalities and civil society organisations concluded the first National Sports Agreement last year. The ambitions formulated are: inclusive sport and exercise, sustainable sports infrastructure, vital sport and exercise providers, a positive sports culture, movement skills and ‘elite sport that inspires’. Sound objectives that the VA is glad to support and contribute to.

In order to arrive at a strong Amsterdam Sports Agreement, participants jointly considered and discussed how to improve the sports climate in Amsterdam, on the basis of three overarching themes: safe, inclusive and pedagogical.

The signing and presentation of the final Amsterdam agreement will take place later this year.
