VA nominated for the Penning Sportraad Amsterdam 2021

1 min read

The Sportraad Amsterdam (Amsterdam Sports Council) has nominated the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Martial Arts Authority) for the Penning Sportraad Amsterdam 2021, the council's annual medal. The medal is awarded each year to a person or organisation that has made an exceptional contribution to sport in Amsterdam.

Five candidates were nominated out of dozens of suggestions. Alongside the VA, these are baseball legend Charles Urbanus, skateboarding advocates Stan Postmus and Nanja van Rijsse, and the Urban Talent Academy.

The Sportraad commends the VA for introducing safety measures that extend across sports, such as the Fightpassport, the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (VA quality mark) and the guidance document for martial arts events that is widely used by municipalities. Since its establishment, the VA has worked closely with the City of Amsterdam and is honoured by the nomination.

Update: The medal was awarded during a ceremony at the Olympic Stadium to Stan Postmus, in recognition of his major contribution to skateboarding in the capital. The VA warmly congratulates him.
