In 2020 the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (Dutch Martial Arts Authority) will introduce a quality mark for martial arts gyms. The audit team of the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit will play an important role in assessing the quality of these gyms. For that reason the current audit team of the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit will be expanded from 15 to 25 people, which means we are looking for driven and committed auditors!

Purpose
The purpose of the audit team is to assess the quality of martial arts gyms and martial arts events using a validated set of assessment instruments.

Organisation and position
The audit team is part of the operational organisation of the Vechtsportautoriteit (VA) and works on the instructions of the board. The committees for Events and Galas and for Quality and Licences advise the board on matters including the guideline for events and the quality requirements for martial arts gyms, and in doing so provide input for the audit team.

The manager of the VA directs the audit team. The manager is also the link between the board, the committees and the audit team.

Profile of a VA auditor
An auditor must have the following qualities.

  • Affinity with full contact martial arts and the professional field connected to it.
  • Knowledge of the relevant standards, rules, regulations and requirements concerning full contact martial arts events (the guideline, permit policy) and martial arts gyms.
  • Knowledge of the audit procedure and affinity with quality assurance, supervision and enforcement.
  • Independence: objective, neutral and reports truthfully. Has no direct relationship with the organisation being audited and no conflicting interests.
  • Professional attitude: acts with integrity, is honest and handles findings carefully and respectfully. Is businesslike, open and approachable. Is able to adapt to the person he or she is speaking with, is open to feedback and able to reflect. Does not draw conclusions too quickly.
  • Has analytical ability and can distinguish the essential from the incidental. Examines and reports facts that are reproducible and verifiable (distinguishes between fact and interpretation).
  • Good communication skills, both spoken and written. Open, pleasant and purposeful communication with people at all levels: from athlete to judge, from security officer to federation director, from parent to coach. Is aware of the impact of his or her actions and takes this into account in the way he or she communicates. Is skilled in drawing up reports.
  • Is able to comply with the duty of confidentiality.
  • Is able to form an independent judgement in the presence of those involved in the organisation of the event and of martial arts gyms, and can substantiate that judgement.
  • Is a team player who always carries out audits together with a second auditor.

Position and selection
The position of auditor is unpaid. A fixed expenses allowance applies per audit. Candidate auditors must submit a letter of motivation to the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit. They must also provide a certificate of good conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG). Audits take place on an on-call basis. The work starts in January 2020.
