‘Municipalities also want to know which gym offers quality’

In principle, anyone may start a combat sports gym. So far, hardly any requirements have been set for trainers and facilities in kickboxing, Thai boxing and mixed martial arts. That leaves too much room for mediocre gyms with unqualified trainers. The Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (the VA quality mark) is changing this, in a way that helps municipalities as well.

Municipalities want to know who they are dealing with. The quality mark is therefore good for them too. In future they will find it easier to keep out the bad apples and to seek cooperation with the good gyms. The magazine Sport & Gemeenten therefore devoted extensive attention to the quality mark. Please note: the dates mentioned in the article have been overtaken by the coronavirus situation. The launch was not in January but this past March. The article gives 1 January 2022 as the date on which the quality mark becomes compulsory for gyms taking part in competitions. Because of the coronavirus situation, this date will be postponed as well. The new date is not yet known.
