Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (Martial Arts Authority Quality Mark) transferred to NVB as of 1 July

At the request of the martial arts sector, the Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit (Martial Arts Authority Quality Mark) for martial arts gyms was launched in 2021. On 1 July 2025, this quality mark will be transferred by the VA to the Nederlandse Vechtsportbond (Dutch Martial Arts Federation).

In 2021, the Nederlandse Vechtsportautoriteit (VA) determined together with gym owners what requirements a good martial arts gym should meet. To apply for the quality mark, an online questionnaire had to be completed and documentation and visual material had to be submitted. Audits were used to check whether all information was correct.

Most martial arts gyms demonstrated that they met the requirements. Many gyms that initially did not meet them made improvements and reached the required level after all. We saw fewer and fewer operators cutting corners, certainly since the quality mark became a requirement for taking part in competitions. Hundreds of martial arts gyms have proudly displayed the quality mark plaque on their premises. A gain for the serious sports entrepreneur and for the athletes.

Last year, the Nederlandse Vechtsportbond (NVB) was established. This has led to agreements on a logical division of tasks between the NVB as sports federation and the VA as regulator. It was decided that the issuing of the quality mark will from now on be the responsibility of the NVB. The VA will continue to carry out audits.

The transfer of the quality mark takes place on 1 July 2025. All current quality marks will of course remain valid until two years after the date they were awarded. If a quality mark expires at some point after 1 July 2025, the gym owner will be notified in good time by the NVB about the reassessment and renewal. This will work exactly as it did under the VA. For the time being, the quality mark will also keep the name Keurmerk Vechtsportautoriteit.

So nothing changes for the quality mark holder. What does change is that, from 1 July, the NVB will be the point of contact if you have questions about the quality mark. Julian Huijsse will handle everything relating to the quality mark on behalf of the NVB. After 1 July, the VA will continue to carry out the audits.
