Meet… Soeresh Bhatoe

The Combat Sports Authority consists of a board, a supervisory board and an office. They are supplied with expertise by a large number of advisers who sit on five committees. But what kind of people are they?
Each of the VA committees focuses on a theme:
– Events and galas
– Medical and health
– Quality and licences
– Technique
– Communication
In this series we introduce you to a number of their members, to give you a better sense of who is actually involved in the substance of the VA's work.
The committee member we present this time is Soeresh Bhatoe.
‘I have been working as a ringside doctor in the Netherlands and Belgium for about 20 years, and occasionally in Germany as well. I do this through the organisation Fighting Doctors, where I am the doctor with ultimate responsibility. This is a pool of expert ringside doctors who supervise combat sports events, both small amateur competitions and major elite sporting events. I also handle the medical supervision of Glory Kickboxing in Europe and the rest of the world, except the United States.’
‘In my role at Fighting Doctors, I made contact with the VA as soon as I heard about its establishment. I became a member of the Medical & Health committee. Within it, my attention goes above all to preventing and minimising damage to health. Brain injury in particular.’
‘By now, combat sports have become part of my life, through my medical involvement. But combat sports also mean connection and friendship to me.’
